All prerequisites for the commencement of construction works on the primary school and sports hall in Kastav have been fulfilled. This is one of the most significant educational infrastructure projects in the area of Kastav and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The main contractor is GP Krk - GP Rijeka, professional supervision will be carried out by Kling, and the construction project will be managed by the team from PDM Savjetovanje. Work on preparing the site begins on Friday, January 16th.
The project carefully integrates the school and the sports hall into a challenging topography characterized by elevation changes and sinkholes typical of the area. The two-storey volume containing classrooms is oriented to the south and is connected underground to the sports hall volume. A public east–west pedestrian route runs above the underground section. The sports playground located on the roof of the hall forms a covered school square/portico and defines the main entrance. Terraced gardens for outdoor activities are planned in the southern part of the site.
The project is implemented by the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in partnership with the City of Kastav and is co-financed by European funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021–2026. The total value of the project is approximately EUR 18 million.
