Mobility Center

The Mobility Center is an infrastructural building that functions as a hub all the functions necessary for the maintenance of autonomous vehicles - charging stations, car wash and a repair centre, and a showroom for guests. A new square and park will also be formed around the building to contribute to the much-needed public space in this part of the city.
The site, with many mature trees along its perimeter, has a major traffic intersection on its north side and a lot of pedestrian traffic moving around and across. These factors have influenced where the building has been positioned on site. The concept was to retain the majority of the existing trees on site and add a new square and park area on the north side of the site. This allowed the building to be surrounded by the landscape reinforcing the idea of a pavilion in a park.
Visible and unobtrusive, the object invites passers-by and users to explore what is happening inside, giving them the opportunity to satisfy their curiosity by walking through the park or climbing on the green roof.
The building is constructed in the form of 4.7 x 4.7m square modules. The modules are fabricated out of steel and fitted with a lightweight floor. The entire facade of the building is made up a unitised facade system that fits within the fabricated modules. This creates a unified and homogenous looking building.
