Hotel Valkane is located in the area of a former quarry in Pula, east of the public city beach, in an area of exploited landscape that physically and visually limits the development of the location.
The hotel building restores the ambient and design values of the space, activates the existing context and enables its adaptation to the needs of permanent and temporary users.
The broken line of the façade obtained by repetition of the accommodation unit’s module reinterprets the stairs of the former quarry. With the addition of a green façade, it repairs the disturbed landscape and creates new greenery in the city.
The new hotel connects the greenery of the natural preserved environment around the plot with the revitalized greenery and public areas by the sea. The park in front of the hotel becomes a buffer zone between the hotel building and the outdoor areas.
