The world EXPO 2008 exhibition in Zaragoza, Spain, was conceived as a complex composed of exhibition countries pavilions. The main theme of EXPO 2008 is “Water and sustainable development” and great importance was given to our planet and its future. The whole EXPO area will be refurbished into a business park after the exhibition ends. Basics of the structure are given by default and the idea is that every country pavilion needs to fit into the whole.
The Croatian response to the main topic is summarized under the motto “A drop of water – a grain of salt”. The basic part of water, H2O molecule, is the bearer of all life on Earth, and the salt is an integral part of sea water. The journey through the Croatian pavilion begins by entering the sea; it continues on the surface and ends with a flight over Croatia. In the final room the visitors are welcomed with a unique experience - an oasis of water and nature. The pavilion is conceived as an experience that involves all of the visitor’s senses. Special visual and acoustic effects evoke a journey across the sea, Croatia, and nature.
