Hotel Dolder Waldhaus Interior

Dolder Waldhaus is located at a unique and prestigious position: in-between urbanized areas and nature, next to the cable car station Dolderbahn. The location features stunning views of Zurich and the lake. The connection to the urban context and the genre of the cosmopolitan city hotel is created through the use of elegant architectural language. All design decisions are closely linked to local specificities and affirm the quality of the topography, of the view and of the natural environment.
The interior integrates the modernist rationality with a connection with nature. Throughout the hotel, different worlds are linked by the concept of fluidity of space and the openness towards the exterior, while at the same time being differentiated by the design of architectural elements. The strategy of activating all the spaces, present in the public areas continues in accommodation units. The intention was to provide a home atmosphere and comfort in the rooms. To fully benefit from the lake views, a deviation from the usual layout was made - the beds are facing the facade establishing in such way a visual contact with the exterior.
The project seeks to reconcile seemingly contradictory demands: how is it possible to provide the individuality of each visitor’s experience and at the same time keep the distinctive qualities of a home, sense of comfort and relaxation, in a place where strangers temporarily reside, meeting in a foreign environment? Instead of a uniformed and standardized space, ambiences with unique atmosphere and usage scenarios which logically correspond to their purposes were designed. For this reason, you may encounter various furniture pieces in the hotel, harmonized with stylistic features of high modernism of the 1950s and 1960s. A domesticated landscape has been created that integrates comfort, relaxation and naturalness, while keeping the hotel unquestionably a part of contemporary architectural culture.
