Mies van der Rohe nominations

Nominations for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies Van der Rohe 2022 have been announced. Two 3LHD projects, the reconstruction of the Urania cinema and the Grand Park Hotel Rovinj are among the nominated works. A total of 10 works of different typologies were nominated from Croatia. 
European independent experts, the national architecture associations, and the Prize Advisory Committee nominated a total of 449 projects from 41 countries. The Mies van der Rohe Prize has been awarded every two years by the European Commission and the Mies Van der Rohe Foundation since 1987. The competition for nominations includes projects by European architects completed in the past two years. Due to the specific situation with the Covid-19 virus, this edition will cover a period of 2,5 years. 
In September this year, new nominated projects to be completed between November 2020 and April 2021 will be added to the already nominated 449 projects completed between October 2018 and October 2020. The new cycle of the prize will announce the Shortlisted works is January 2022, the 5 finalist works in February 2022, and the winner in April 2022. 
Among the nominated project typologies, the number of reconstructions of existing buildings is increasing, as many as a quarter of them are among the nominees. Other leading typologies include family houses, followed by multi-apartment architecture and educational institutions, while the number of cultural projects has decreased compared to previous editions.
