The lighting fixture Root was originally designed for the cafeteria/pavilion of the Faculty of Forestry in Zagreb, located in the poetic ambiance of the green campus adjoining the largest park in Zagreb, Maksimir. The pavilion's concept is based on integration with nature: from the geometry of the house designed around existing trees to the greenery integrated into the project. However, the building is by no means submissive to the context, using a recognizable, precise, and contemporary architectural language without explicit "natural" references, although Root itself is inspired by tree roots.

The concept of Root arises from the desire to create "clusters," or groupings of mobile lighting fixtures in the public spaces of the cafeteria. Root is extremely simple. A metal tube connects to the ceiling, descends vertically, bends and folds, then returns to a vertical position where a visible bulb is attached. This elemental unit is executed in three modulations of different inclinations and overall heights, with each unit being rotatable. By freely combining units, various spatial installations are created, and rotation makes the composition both interactive and constantly changing. Clusters can vary in size and density of element arrangement, opening up space for numerous compositional and lighting variations. Depending on immediate functional needs, lighting conditions, and purely aesthetic affinities of the users, the disposition of clusters changes, significantly influencing the ambient space. Naturally, the individual elements also function autonomously.
