Opening of the exhibition "OPEN: new Design for Public Space" in Chicago

The Croatian architectural studio 3LHD is participating at the great world exhibition "OPEN: new Design for Public Space" which opened on 28 January at the Chicago Architecture Foundation in Chicago, organized by the Van Alen Institute from New York. The opening was attended by a large number of visitors. The exhibition will be open until 7 May 2006.Among some twenty invited authors are the works of some of the most prominent world architects: Norman Foster (UK), Peter Eisenman (USA), Will Alsop (UK), Zaha Hadid (UK), Diller + Scofidio (USA), and others.3LHD presented its design "Croatian Defenders Bridge" in Rijeka, which won the "AR+D award 2002" for young promising architects, given by the distinguished "The Architectural Review", and the award of the American design magazine I.D. Magazine. The same project won the Croatian architecture award "Viktor Kovačić" in 2001. The design of the bridge also won the recognition of the "Piranesi" magazine (Piran, Slovenia) and of the "Bauwelt" (Berlin, Germany)."OPEN: new Design for Public Space" is an exhibition of contemporary public spaces, either under construction or recently completed, which present the most innovative designs of buildings, environment and urban design in cities from all over the world. The exhibited designs reveal new approaches to the idea of how we live in cities today and how we shall live in the future, regarding the infrastructure, environment, traffic, recreation, culture and tourism.
