Novalja Urban Development Study

Novalja urban development study deals with the whole western part of the Pag island, the area of City of Novalja. Because of its different spatial characteristics, this big area has been divided in six thematic spatial zones: Lun peninsula, Old Novalja bay, Novalja Field, City of Novalja, Pag bay and the so-called Lunar landscape. Each zone is specific with its geographical characteristics, traditional use of space, resources and potentials. That is what defined the specific approach in planning of further development of each zone. Natural features and the landscape, existence of the traditional agriculture, pastures and millennial olive groves all have great potential and they are starting points for the planning of sustainable development.

The result of the study is a set of project proposals that are the product of a comprehensive debate on the development of the area. With a uniform and thoughtful development of infrastructure and economy while protecting natural specifics, the planned development strives to sustainability. The concept promotes economic growth, preservation of natural resources, increase of the quality of life of the local population and the expansion of the tourist offer through the implementation of locally oriented projects, based on three basic points: construction of tourist infrastructure in the landscape, dispersion of accommodation, economic development through local educational centers.
