In fierce competition with projects from around the world Mulini Beach won two awards on the 24th international edition of the CEMEX Building Award. 3LHDs' Mulini Beach took second place in the Infrastructure and urban development category and first place in the Congruence in accessibility category on the awards ceremony held in Mexico. The beach shares the second place in the infrastructure and urbanism category with the project of Cuexcomatitlan Pier from Mexico. The international CEMEX prize is awarded to the most successful projects, winners of national competitions, in several categories: Housing, Institutional and Industrial Building and Infrastructure and Urbanism, and special prizes are awarded to projects that respect the principles of sustainable building and the accessibility of facilities to people with disabilities. This year two Croatian projects participated in the competition and won three awards.
The Mulini Beach project is an extension of Rovinj public area. By extending the promenade and the formation of a new pedestrian corridor the beach and promenade facilities were made available to cyclists, recreational users and all of the Rovinj citizens, not just to nearby hotel guests. The seabed has been redesigned with construction of underwater embankments giving the beach and the promenade protection from extreme weather conditions and waves thus making it more available when weather is not ideal. After Riva Split Waterfront in 2008, this is the second 3LHD's project which was awarded the international CEMEX award in the infrastructure and urbanism category.
