3LHD has won the the annual Croatian Architects' Association Viktor Kovačić award for the project of reconstruction of the old cinema Urania. The annual Viktor Kovačić Award is presented to the most successful achievement in all areas of architectural creation. The opening of the exhibition and the awards ceremony was held in the Basement of Diocletian's Palace in Split.
Urania Cinema/Theatre is one of numerous old cinema buildings built in the city of Zagreb in the early 20th century. Although built in 1939, the entire concrete structure of the building is very well preserved with all the supporting pillars, the main arches in the large hall and all the ceilings. The ceilings are a special example as one of the first concrete structures with longitudinal repetitive narrow structural ribs from that period.
